And It Was Good - A Look at God's Creation: Crystals

“I’m on a mission from God” - Blues Brothers

No, seriously though, I do feel like I’m on a mission from the Creator Himself to bring the beauty and wonder of HIs Creation - which He Himself called “good” back Us - which He called  “very good”. I am particularly speaking to people who were raised with a Conservative Christian worldview, since most of us grew up with a healthy fear of anything that could be categorized as “New Age”. Friends - I’m here to tell you that crystals are about as OLD AGE as you can get! LOL! This is not going to be a conversation about how old our earth is - nope - not going there. LOL! This is going to be a gathering of some fun factoids I have picked up along the way that I pray will be read and considered.

First off, when you read about how crystals are formed and created you will read words like “Crystals form by a process called crystallization that signifies a transition from chaos to perfection.” How awesome is THAT? Or words like “Every crystal has an orderly, internal pattern of atoms, with a distinctive way of locking new atoms into that pattern to repeat it again and again.” Each article or scientific journal will point you to the understanding that crystals are formed with energy and power that result in something orderly, and beautiful. When I read these things I say to myself, “Heck yes they are powerful!” and then I break into worship (bringing it back to the old school- “My God is so Big So Strong and So Mighty - There’s Nothing My God Cannot Do!” I see a Creator with a specific Design - and dare I say - specific purpose at work here!

You will not find any double blind studies about the healing benefits of crystals. You WILL find information about the ability of the symmetrical patterns of crystal lattices being able to hold and transmit energy and vibrations. You will find science behind the fact that WE transmit energy and vibrate. You will also find science behind the benefits of color therapy. And yes, if you are are still skeptical - go ahead and look at the science behind the placebo effect - what we believe plays a HUGE impact on our reality. Speaking directly to my Christian friends - one of the most compelling arguments for the benefits of wearing and having crystals as a part of your life would be the fact that GOD HIMSELF instructed the High Priest to wear a breastplate with 12 crystals on it! This was the person chosen by God to be the mediator between Him and His People. Now THAT is saying something! Let’s dive down THIS rabbit hole shall we?

Aaron - the first High Priest of the Nation of Israel wore a breastplate with 12 gemstones (crystals) - one representing each tribe (and son) of Israel

“It is to be square – a span long and a span wide – and folded double. Then mount four rows of precious stones on it. The first row shall be Carnelian, Chrysolite and Beryl; the second row shall be Turquoise, Lapis Lazuli and Emerald; the third row shall be Jacinth, Agate and Amethyst; the fourth row shall be Topaz, Onyx and Jasper. Mount them in gold filigree settings. There are to be twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel, each engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes.” Exodus 28:16-20

The high priest had a powerful and vital role in the nation. He was the spiritual leader, oversaw the religious ceremonies, and was the one person who was chosen to go before the presence of God once a year in the Holy of Holies (the inner portion of the temple) to atone for his sins and the sins of the entire nation. THAT IS A LOT OF PRESSURE for one person. I am choosing to believe that God - who created the world in a  beautiful, and organized manner - had a reason for choosing these particular gemstones for the high priest to wear (over his heart I might add - coincidence? I think not). Let’s look at some of the mind/body/spiritual benefits of these stones by examining how they were used historically and how they match up with the body energetically.

Carnelian - Carnelians (and other red stones) were worn for their perceived benefit in making the wearer a better and bolder speaker. A stabilising stone, Carnelian restores vitality and motivation, and stimulates creativity. It gives courage, promotes positive life choices, dispels apathy and motivates for success.

Chrysolite (peridot) - Reduces stress, anger and guilt. Peridot opens our hearts to joy and new relationships. It enhances confidence and assertion, motivating growth and change. Sharpens and opens the mind to new levels of awareness.

Beryl - stimulates adaptability, activity and vitality.

Turquoise - Turquoise balances and aligns all the energy systems in the body, stabilising mood swings and instilling inner calm. It is excellent for depression and exhaustion, it also has the power to prevent panic attacks. Turquoise promotes self-realisation and assists creative problem solving.

Lapis Lazuli - Encourages self-awareness, allows self-expression and reveals inner truth, providing qualities of honesty, compassion and morality to the personality. Stimulates objectivity, clarity and encourages creativity. Lapis Lazuli assists to confront and speak one's truth and inspires confidence.

Emerald - . Enhances unconditional love, unity and promotes friendship. Keeps partnerships in balance. Emerald stimulates the heart, having a healing effect on the emotions as well as the physical heart.

Jacinth/Hyacinth - This stone was used as protection against infectious diseases, poisons and asthma. Its wearer quickly gains popularity in any company. Hyacinth was used historically to protect against evil, malicious spirits and nightmares, drives away melancholy, improves appetite and digestion.

Agate - Cleanses and stabilises the aura, eliminating and transforming negativity. Agate enhances mental function, improving concentration, perception and analytical abilities. It soothes and calms, healing inner anger or tension and creates a sense of security and safety.

Amethyst -A natural tranquilizer, it relieves stress and strain, soothes irritability, balances mood swings, dispels anger, rage, fear and anxiety. Alleviates sadness and grief, and dissolves negativity. Amethyst activates spiritual awareness, opens intuition.

Topaz - Soothes, heals, stimulates, recharges, remotivates and aligns the energy systems of the body – directing energy to where it is needed most. It promotes truth and forgiveness. Topaz brings joy, generosity, abundance and good health. It is known as a stone of love and good fortune.

Onyx - Gives strength. It promotes vigor, steadfastness and stamina. Imparts self-confidence, helping you to be at ease in your surroundings. Onyx banishes grief, enhances self-control and stimulates the power of wise decision-making.

Jasper - Sustains and supports through times of stress, and brings tranquility and wholeness. Jasper provides protection and absorbs negative energy. It balances the energies of the body.

I don’t know about you - but this lights me right up. I see a loving God who cared for this person who had such heavy responsibilities and provided energetic support for him as he carried out these important tasks. I also cannot help but point out that Jesus is called our “Great High Priest” in the Bible. I see order and beauty in all of this. I see a Creative God who cares for us enough to create molecules that when combined with an amazing amount of energy, and in an orderly fashion, literally light up. It is not a far leap for me to believe that these beautiful acts of creation have the ability to bring order and balance to our energetic bodies as well. I choose to worship and praise the Creator of these "good" crystals.
