LATE SPRING CLEANING: LIVER CLEANSE

cleanse May 23, 2017

Cleanse disclaimer: Before I jump into the nitty gritty of how to best support the liver I want to address how important it is to have a COLON that is functioning and healthy. As we support these different organs and begin to cleanse them, they will be releasing toxins into the system…you do NOT want them to be STUCK in your body. So get the plumbing working well before you start on anything else. There are MANY colon supporting products that YL offers: Cleansing Trio, ICP, Digest & Cleanse, 3 Day Nutritive Cleanse, Comfort Tone, Life 9, Essentialzymes, Essentialzymes 4, and Detoxyme to name a few. Ok…detox disclaimer out of the way….moving on.

The liver is located under the right ribs below the diaphragm and is about the size of a football. It is the largest gland in the body. Many consider it one of the most important organ in the body.

Its primary functions include producing bile (an alkaline fluid that aids in digestion…also produced by the gallbladder…which is meant to be supported in early spring…search for my past blog on this organ). It also can turn sugars and proteins into fats for energy storage and turn fats back into sugars. It stores glucose, vitamin D, vitamin A, B12, iron, copper, and fats. It metabolizes proteins. It makes cholesterol (which also plays a role in hormone production in our bodies). It also breaks down toxins, worn out red blood cells, and hormones. What a list, right?!? This is just the physical benefits of a happy liver. The liver is also connected to the state of our monthly cycles, skin, fingernails, eyes, and ligaments.

A yearly cleanse will help the liver stay healthy and clear it of excess fats and toxins so it can function properly. In our highly toxic world there is a desperate need to cleanse and detoxify the liver so it can more effectively cleanse and detoxify us (since it has to filter everything we eat, drink, breathe or put on our skin). Everything that cannot be cleansed from the body gets stored as fat (if that is not extra motivation I don’t know what is).

But wait! There’s more! Check out the emotional/spiritual connection to the liver:

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine the liver is responsible for the smooth flow of emotions and energy in the body. The liver is the organ most affected by emotions and stress (rut ro raggy). When the liver is healthy and happy you are able to flexible, make plans wisely and effortlessly, express emotions in a healthy way, and just over all able to “go with the flow”.

Here are some indications that you may want to consider giving your liver a bit more support: strong reactions to seasonal changes or insect bites, bitter taste in the mouth after eating, craving sour foods, sensitivity to chemicals or odors, irregular or painful menstrual cycle, eye concerns, easily angered, chronic complaining, inflexibility (literally and figuratively). If you said “Check. Yes. Shoot! Ok fine, I need to support my liver!” to the list above then check out the following recommendations.

1 can of niblet corn, drained

Juice of one lime

Specific Liver Happy Foods!

Eat more greens (leafy’s, avocado, apples, brussels, asparagus).

Consume lighter foods.

Avoid alcohol.

Sour foods (Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime).

Walnuts.

Tumeric

Cabbage

Also, garlic, ginger and lemon have a warm essence that is very beneficial for Liver function and health. Ginger tea can be added as a daily beverage to help address cold conditions in the body. Because sour is the taste associated with the Liver, sour foods can really help this organ.

Physical Activity to Support the Liver

Liver Meridian – Using a hairbrush with rounded bristles, hit your legs up and down the insides of your thighs and calves, starting at the ankles, for about five minutes. This gently stimulates your Liver meridian, allowing your energy to flow more freely and relaxing your Liver.

Acupressure – Rub the acupressure point which stimulates a key point on the liver channel. It may be sore, which is an indication that you are hitting the right spot. You are unblocking your Liver Energy!

Try to rub this area every day. It’s located on top of your foot where the big toe bone meets the second toe bone (about an inch back from the skin between these toes). Using your thumb, press and massage this spot on both feet (the meridians are on both sides of your body). You can also rub with your thumb moving forward along the inside of the big toe.

Where my Yogi’s at??? There are several poses that help to support the liver.

*Forward Fold

*Supine Spinal Twist

*Cobra

*Headstands

Super Awesome “Extra” Recommendations for the Liver

The best time to support the liver is between 1-3 AM (don’t fret you can also support your liver from 1-3 PM). I prefer to do most of my support after meals when digestion is happening.

Yellow is the color that supports the liver best. Wearing yellow helps on a frequency level (it is located in the solar plexus center and the solar plexus resonates at the same frequency as yellow and the musical note E…cool, right?!?).

Diffuse that Sitch: Forgiveness, Release, Surrender, Transformation, and Hope are all AMAZING to diffuse ALL SPRING while you are supporting the emotional side of a healthy liver.

Affirmation: (combine this statement while smelling the above oils for some powerful shifts and support) “I choose forgiveness. I choose health and wholeness. I am accountable for my actions and choices. I am grateful for the teachers in my life.”

Skin Connection: The area between your eyebrows (yes…I am talking about the unibrow area) is connected to the liver. Do not be surprised if that area (and really the rest of your face) begins to break out when you begin cleansing. Better out than in friends! Don’t give up!

Personal Testimonial: Soooo….I have been supporting my liver for the past couple of weeks. I will be honest. It wasn’t always pretty. My skin got VERY angry at me so I switched to oil cleansing with castor oil and Purification (which also helps with anger). My anger bubbled up pretty quickly…ok…who am I kidding…I was a lunatic for a couple of days. I reached out to my awesome community of friends who spoke truth to me and reminded me that I AM THE ONE WHO HAS A CHOICE WITH HOW I RESPOND TO MY EMOTIONS. I needed that reminder. So, I am not suppressing my emotions, but letting them wash over me and slowing down and taking a time out if need be. I went through a LOT of Release and am LOVING Transformation in the diffuser. I definitely noticed how I was getting “stuck” quite often, and how the scales seem to be lifting from my eyes once I started the cleanse. Speaking of my eyes, the sleep in my eyes was off the charts. I also chose to start doing more yoga instead of my HIIT workouts to encourage flexibility in my routine and my body. Oh…and seriously…try not to drink alcohol. Seriously. Your liver will not be happy. LOL. Happy to answer any other questions you may have. Happy Cleansing!
